The firm’s work continues at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular with the opening of the refreshed Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit. Wilmot Sanz designed the original building almost two decades ago and is now engaging with Inova to refresh the center for its next chapter. As the third phase of a larger unit modernization, this unit renovation brings updated facilities to the care teams providing the latest in heart health.
As patient care demands rise, Inova is undertaking a multi-phased unit modernization taking place over multiple years, beginning with some of their most high demand spaces.
The newly modernized ICCU, located on 1st Floor North, offers 24 cardiac care beds with upgraded layouts and finishes maximizing space and costs. The unit also offers two isolation rooms.
Two large nursing team stations optimize team coordination, patient care and family support throughout the unit. A central nursing management administrative suite, staff break room, lounge and lockers allow for respite and recharge for the amazing nursing staff.
Each cardiac care patient room is flanked by a charting alcove for observation and documentation. The suite design aligns with Inova’s brand standards and meets all requirements for interior finishes for ICCUs.
