As it celebrated 100+ years of serving the coastal Delaware community, Beebe Healthcare embarked on a strategic facilities expansion plan to address aging facilities, major capital investments by nearby competitors, and increased year-round patient volumes. Expansion on the existing main campus is constrained by a legacy context, complicated phasing, and lengthy approval processes. Instead, the plan created multiple new destination healthcare campuses, using a decentralized approach to bring improved access to patient care and Beebe’s brand directly to the community. The implementation strategy involved a formal integrated project delivery (IPD) methodology.
The Rehoboth Surgical Hospital is Beebe’s new home for inpatient and ambulatory orthopedic surgery, featuring four operating rooms, 24 medical/surgical beds, and a new central plant. Shell space and a carefully developed master plan provide a flexible platform for future growth. The opening of the Rehoboth Surgical Hospital freed much needed space on the main Lewes campus for phased modernization.
