Throughout this challenging time, we have assisted many of our health system clients with quick-turnaround modifications of their existing facilities to boost surge capacity, accommodate changing workflows, and create mechanically pandemic-resilient spaces.
At Frederick Health, for instance, we worked with the hospital to rapidly expand emergency department capacity. The project temporarily relocated the existing pediatric emergency department to allow the main ED to expand to accommodate more COVID-19 patients. Given the need to move quickly and efficiently, our project team, led by Andrew Bowers, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, cLSGB, collaborated as part of an existing, design/build working relationship on campus. Following an intensive, two week design and permitting process and a few weeks of construction, the expanded space opened to patients.
