At the 2024 Healthcare Design and Expo conference that took place in Indianapolis in early October, one of Wilmot Sanz’s very own was recognized with the prestigious Rising Star award. Dorris Hwang, Associate and the firm’s Technical Enclosure Director shares her thoughts on the experience and how this award has rounded out a big year in her career.
“It was around this time last year that I got the email that every architect anticipates – I passed my final ARE exam and was officially a licensed architect. Little did I know that would start a whirlwind year culminating in receiving one of the Rising Star awards at the 2024 Healthcare Design Conference.” said Hwang.
Dorris holds her Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies from the University of Washington and is a licensed architect, LEED Accredited Professional, WELL Accredited Professional and has earned her accreditation and certification in Evidence Based Design from the Center for Health Design.
“In 2024, I had the opportunity and privilege to be accepted into the 2024 class of the Christopher Kelly Leadership Development Series (CKLDP), hosted by the Washington, DC Chapter of the AIA. Through this program, I grew as an architect and a professional in more ways than one. As my team encouraged me to apply for the Rising Star, the success I had through CKLDP helped build my courage to go for it!” said Hwang.
“Receiving the Rising Star award was a meaningful experience for me and one I will cherish throughout my career. However, attending my first Healthcare Design conference, surrounded by passionate designers that love healthcare, sustainability, and the mission to put patients first gave me the opportunity to expand my network and inspire my next innovations.”
