The new Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, which opened in December 2011, is featured in Healthcare Design magazine’s April 2013 issue. The article, written as part of the publication’s monthly “Transformations” series showcasing highly successful renovated spaces, is posted online here.
Featuring 26 beds, the Cardiac ICU integrates advanced technology to ensure patient safety and improve outcomes. Ceiling mounted booms in each patient room accommodate in-room procedures in an emergency. Twelve foot wide corridors with storage alcoves were designed to safely accommodate patients transported from the CVOR, creating a calmer, quieter ambiance. A cutting edge media room allows staff to monitor patients remotely and can send and receive real-time images to and from anywhere in the world.
