The healthcare facility is a complex, integrated building type that requires careful attention to many codes and regulatory demands. Because these buildings operate continuously, they consume a lot of resources and energy. Yet we believe that we cannot design hospitals and medical offices without the environment in mind.
Balancing Sustainability and Project Cost
We strive to achieve the right blend of sustainable features in all of our projects. We can incorporate a variety of sustainable design elements into our clients’ projects, ranging from green features to full Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
Many of our projects follow the LEED for New Construction program, the Green Guide for Healthcare and our own customized guide, created to achieve our clients’ environmental goals. Our staff is dedicated to bringing sustainable design to our clients in a cost-effective manner, because our clients challenge us to use the resources of today to meet the needs of the future.
LEED
A growing number of our design staff members are LEED Accredited Professionals. We have LEED experience in the New Construction, Commercial Interiors and Core and Shell programs. As sustainable design professionals, we have a variety of tools at hand to help integrate better environmental stewardship with the unique objectives of each client. These include customized checklists for clients not seeking LEED certification, reviews during the design phase for sustainable features, the LEED program and a custom material selection database.
As the US Green Building Council develops a specific program for healthcare, called LEED-HC, we continue to monitor its progress and potential benefit for our projects, allowing us to stay at the forefront of the latest trends in this rapidly changing field.
