A six-story addition and renovation to house a new emergency department and 291 all-private beds
This $175-million, 330,000-SF project for MedStar Health's Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore will replace 291 existing beds in a new all-private patient room tower. The new tower will house the following:
- 192 medical surgical beds
- 42 critical care beds
- 48 intermediate care beds
- 9 pediatric care beds
The project also includes a replacement emergency department sized to service the hospital's 130,000 annual emergency visits. The new department will consist of the following:
- 16 fast track treatment rooms
- 46 adult emergency treatment rooms
- 6 psychiatric treatment rooms
- 12 pediatric treatment rooms
In addition, 9 inpatient pediatric patient rooms are provided adjacent to the pediatric emergency department, which will share staff and support spaces.
Another component of the project is the new main entrance and lobby, designed to improve the hospital's front door image and access from parking. The main lobby will house space for a gift shop and chapel, as well as an interior garden.
Finally, a new central energy plant will be developed to accommodate new and replacement infrastructure for the medical campus and a new 1,000-car on-grade parking lot will be developed.
